Design PhilosophyAs an artist, I have not only the ability, but the need to create ways with which we can communicate visually. I am able to express my thoughts and feelings through my creations, the same thoughts that are often hard for me to put into words. At times I feel as if words have been completely erased from my mind, left unable to articulate what I am thinking. No one can understand me; I stumble, but with a pencil in my hand this changes. My thoughts are turned into a drawing that tells the audience more than I could ever piece together with words. My ideas can now reach more people through my art.
When starting a project, I always begin with research. Everything I find useful, I gather into a mood board and this helps me stay true to the message being relayed. After, I begin to sketch my ideas. The best one is drawn fully, scanned, and turned into a digital copy. This method allows me to keep my signature style and mark. The process of producing a work stays consistent, but I never stop my hand from following what my mind wants to create. Graphic design is a form a visual communication and it is all around us. I have the skills to create for clients a visual that articulates what their ideas may be. I become the middle man who translates their ideas into a visual and more universal format. In both fine arts and graphic design, the process remains the same. The message needs to be understood from the start, any source of inspiration is gathered, and trust is established between to artist and the client. When creating for a client different problems will always arise, it is just as important for me to think of creative solutions for those problems, then it is for me to create something that is visually appealing. In the end, whether it is a logo, an ad, or a drawing, visual formats of communication allow greater connections to be made. |
