Design PhilosophyI have always had the ability to notice and identify visual patterns and subtleties that occur within the natural and manmade world. Most of the time I find myself assessing these patterns and attempting to create solutions or alternatives of my own. The influence of visual communication has always fascinated me, even prior to pursuing design and art. That infatuation has allowed me to see the world with a clarity that inspires me to continue learning and creating.
As a designer, I focus primarily on branding and art direction. I define visual identities and curate projects that are bold, evocative and meaningful. Projects that I work on most frequently include visual campaigns for music artists, logos, branding systems, and most recently, publication design. My approach to graphic design is very much influenced by postmodernist methodologies and the critique of graphic design as a practice. Postmodernism influences my work in the way that I combine deconstructed and abstract aesthetics with clean design elements. This juxtaposition creates dynamic visual contrast that makes a strong statement. I enjoy experimenting with typography and image making, especially with photography. Through both self-initiated and client projects, I constantly aim to create progressive design solutions that are balanced in style, functionality, and meaning. I am not concerned with following trends or abiding to any set of rules, however I do believe that taking into account certain common practices and preferred techniques is necessary in the progression of any designer. Rather, I am interested in the pursuit of innovation and a forward thinking approach to graphic design. I will continue to utilize these skills and philosophies in order to grow as both a designer and human being. |
