Artist Statement My work is inspired by how people interact with nature and the impact they make on it. I take what is familiar and twit it into something peculiar but still recognizable. I like to use the feeling of unease to push the viewer to look within themselves to see what can be changed. While working with glass and other materials I use light to attract the viewer’s attention to my work. I find that light and reflections are some of the most important aspects of both my sculptural pieces and my more functional glass work.
Most of my sculptures are derived from perceptible animal forms. Some pieces have a light source inside the work that I use to control where the viewer’s focus is. Each aspect of the creature is turned and morphed into a new shape and put the viewer on edge. I create work that the viewer finds aesthetically pleasing in the moment, but will leave the viewer with a need to be more aware of their own actions. My goal is to have the viewer realize how their actions can affect other beings and nature. |
