Design PhilosophyAs a college student life is simply a crazy mess. There is so much to do with so little time and sometimes life turns into this jumbo ball of what-the-hell. Hopefully, people are able to find something that somewhat calms the storm around them down, mine is Graphic Design. It is the perfect combination of two things I have always enjoyed; creativity and technology. Being able to take someone’s idea and make it into something visible is an amazing thing. Creating something that is able to communicate to an audience without saying a single word is extremely powerful. Working to please someone’s needs may be long and arduous, but in the end a work of art is made.
When working on a project, I start by researching the client, and develop questions to help expand my knowledge of the company. The more information I get, the better understanding I have of this clients goals. It is key to stay on track and be able to keep the connection between the design and the target audience. Sketching thumbnails is the next crucial part. Putting your ideas on paper lets the designer know what will be successful and what wont. Creating multiple variations to build off of will help me keep exploring options until I am satisfied with a concept. Being able to adapt to different clients’ needs and create something fitting for them while keeping our individual style keeps us consistently challenging ourselves. Each client we work with, will assert different demands, challenging us to steer our work in different directions each time. I would describe my style as simplistic and timeless. I try my best to create fresh designs that are functional and modern. Clean and efficient designs created specifically to get the client’s point across. The message of the design should be communicated as quickly and effectively as possible to the viewers while using visual appealing designs to attract attention. Recently I have been extremely attracted to collage. The mix of graphic design and hands on mixed media is something I feel very passionate about. |
I like taking several different images and creating one with a whole new meaning. I want to provoke the viewers think, and I believe each viewer will take something different out of it. Branding is also something I’ve always been interested in. The design concept of a brand is extremely important and being able to create the best personality for the product that will grab the audience’s attention is engaging. Taking a product or business without an official look, and creating its unique presentation is something I want to pursue.
After years of expanding my knowledge, I’ve come to understand the importance of the communication between the design and the audience. The connection between the two is what makes a design successfully stand out. I hope to create work that pushes my creativity while also communicating the clients’ needs. There’s a cliché quote that says “Do what you love” and with design, I’m doing just that. |
