Design PhilosophyMy middle school science teacher gave me my first failed grade for doodling on a quiz. She told me that I was never going to be successful and that I will be looked down upon for my drawings. I still laugh at those simple days, not because I actually got every answer right, but in hindsight, I am now developing a career as a graphic designer. People don’t realize that almost all products around them, perhaps even on them are developed from a graphic designers. Logos, posters, clothing, street signs, and even little things such as subway tickets are part made by graphic designers. There’s one word that describes graphic designs visualizers. The dictionary defines visualizers, “to make visual or visible, and to make perceptible to the mind or imagination.” And that’s the aspect of a graphic designer.
As a graphic designer, I have had experiences with many clients. Through these clients and projects I’ve done in college, I’ve adapted different styles and have become versatile artist that will be able to adapt clientele goals. From advertisements to logos, even from photography to filming, I explored and enjoyed every aspect of it. What sets me aside than most graphic designers today is my fast process and creativity in my works. I could easily produce over 20 different thumbnails and styles less than two hours and could produce a final composition faster than most. For instance, I could produce over 50 types of designs base off the letter “A” and shape it into something remarkable. What also sets me aside from other graphic designers is my knowledge and eagerness to learn. Of course we go to schools and classes to learn from teachers, but I consider teachers giving students advice rather than learning. The factor that sets the boundaries of my success so far is by branching out on my own and teaching myself new applications outside of class. Research is the key factor of todays and futuristic trends produce’s a faster turnaround, which leads towards a better quality project. The most underrated and miss looked skill in graphic designers is communication. I believe my success in most of my clients who still reach out for more work is partly due to my communication skills. Taking two classes in communications, as well as marketing classes outside of college and handling previous clients have developed a skill where I can branch out to be a CEO Specialist as well. This is what separates the boundaries of jobs and career. One always hears a successful person talk highly of his or her career, but never hears an unsuccessful person do the same. |
